There are left luggage facilities and lockers available in both terminals. The lost property office is situated on the first level of Terminal 1. Trolleys are also available for the passengers’ convienience.

Transport from the Airport

Rail: It has two passenger railway facilities. The Regional Train Station (platforms 1-3) is located beneath Terminal 1. From here, S-Bahn commuter trains (lines S8 and S9) depart for central Frankfurt and the Hauptbahnhof (central station). Trains also run to Offenbach and Hanau, and to Rüsselsheim, Mainz and Wiesbaden. RegionalExpress (RE) and StadtExpress (SE) trains serve many other destinations. The AIRail Terminal long-distance train station (platforms 4-7) is linked via a connector building to Terminal 1. From here, a number of high-speed ICE trains depart to the central stations of Cologne (journey time - 1 hour) and Stuttgart (journey time - 75 minutes), with connections further afield in Germany and across Europe. Services are operated by Deutsche Bahn (tel: (01805) 221100 or 11861 or 0800 150 7090.

Road: Bus: Regular buses stop at the bus station in front of the Terminal 1 Arrivals hall, and at the bus bay in front of the Arrivals/Departures halls of Terminal 2. Bus 61 serves Frankfurt-Südbahnhof, bus 900 serves Obertshausen Bahnhof and bus 73 serves Kelsterbach, while the Darmstadt Airliner runs to Darmstadt. There are also Lufthansa bus lines to Hahn Airport, Heidelberg, Mannheim and Strasbourg, stopping in front of Arrivals Hall B, Terminal 1.

Taxi: Taxis are readily available outside both terminals (journey time to the city centre - 20-30 minutes dependent on traffic).

City has just one airport but the smaller ones called Frankfurt/Hahn is mostly used by no-frills airlines. However, Hahn is far away from city and it actually takes about 2 hours to drive from downtown, so allow for that airport more time into your travel plans and budget. A Bus from Hahn to main airport and on to Hauptbahnhof ( Central Station) costs about 12 euro and leaves roughly every hour, tickets are available from the kiosk, outside in front of the main entrance.

GETTING AROUND
Public Transport in city is kind of expensive, but really efficient. It is formed by an integrated network of modern underground U-bahn lines, S-bahn city trains and buses. Most of public transport operates from 4am to 2am, and there are also night bus routes which operate from 1am. Around city there are 7 U-Bahn lines, sometimes these come over ground outside the city centre. The S-Bahn trains cover the city suburbs as well as the international airport. Many people prefer to buy daily travel cards which cover buses, trams and trains; others prefer the Hotel Guest ticket that offers two days free transport and is inexpensive.

By Bicycle

It is a good city for cyclists; there are bike hire passages almost in all places. Many of the streets have a cycling lane; the most beautiful route is along the River Maine. Around the city you will find many places to rent a bike, especially at the Central Station.

By Taxi

Taxis are safe, but expensive. They charge by the trip and by the carload, some of them could carry up to six passengers. The most expensive charges are paid in holidays. Taxis are easy to recognize, they are usually beige Mercedez.

By Car

The routes in the city are really good, but it is not advisable driving there. If you recently arrived in the city it is really confusing; there are lots of streets and expensive parking spaces. The centre of city is seriously congested during rush hours, so try to not drive during this time.
