BASIC FACTS
Frankfurt is located on the famous Main River, giving city the name
‘Frankfurt am Main’. By the 20th century, it
developed into a major financial and geographical center of western
Germany. Being a cultural and economic center located at the heart of
Europe, Frankfurt am Main is regarded as the fifth largest city of
Germany. The myriad of cultural and historical sights make the city an
attractive tourist destination as well.
Frankfurt, the main transport hub of Germany with extensive air, road
and rail connections, has the largest airport in the country. This
draws in plenty of tourists from far and wide and also those who come
to participate in the different international trade fairs conducted
annually.
CLIMATE
City has a warm and wet summer with a highest temperature of 33.6
° Celsius. The weather in May, September and October is more
tolerable than the summer that last from June to August. The winters in
Frankfurt are quite chilly with temperatures dipping to –7.6
°Celsius in December. Storms are likely during the winter
season that last from November to February. The city is also blessed
with frequent rains. It receives an annual rainfall of 640mm. The
average annual temperature of the city is 10.7 °C and
precipitation of 555.5 mm.
PEOPLE
& CULTURE
It is a city with a varied culture. People of different
nationalities inhabit the city and while walking along the streets, one
can hear people speaking different languages such as English, Spanish
and Italian. Although the main religion is Christianity, people
following diverse religions can be found in the city. The city has a
large population of Caucasians, with a significant Turkish minority. It
also has many refugees from the former Yugoslavia. Women also enjoy
equal status.
LANGUAGES
German is the official language of the city. The dialect varies from
region to region. English is also widely spoken and Spanish and Italian
are also used.

CURRENCY
Germany's ambitious plan to replace the Deutsche Mark with the Euro to
become the country's single currency has proved successful within
Frankfurt and throughout Germany. The Deutsche Mark was exchanged at a
rate of 1.95583 and is structured as follows:
Euro coins: - 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents (eurocents) / 1 and 2 Euros
Euro notes: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 Euro
