SHOPPING IN THE CITY

If you're a shopaholic, you may want to time your visit to Singapore to coincide with the mid-year Great Singapore Sale, when it seems that the whole island is going at a discount. All major shopping centers and boutiques mark down their prices during this period, which can last for up to a month. You may do well to fight the crowds and shop right at the beginning of the Great Sale - shoppers in the know say that's when the best buys are to be had.
 
Orchard Road is the region’s most famous shopping area. This place is also known as the ‘city’ of Singapore and it is the most popular shopping area among tourists and locals. The street is lined the major local and international department stores, tiny boutique, supermarkets, movie theatres, restaurants ,cafes ,snack bars and famous hotels.

Bugis Street
Today, Bugis Street has revamped itself by providing sheltered walkways and air-conditioned shopping zones. Now housing over 600 stalls, it offers an eclectic mix of trendy and functional street wear, cafes, hawker food and services. Possibly one of the best known areas in city, Bugis Street retains its disctinctive street shopping feel.

Changi Village Off the beaten track near the Eastern tip of Singapore, Changi Village is a sleepy district in contrast to the bustling city. There are plenty of bargains to be found - t-shirts, electronic equipment, carpets, Indian cotton clothing, shoes, batik dresses, kimonos and all types of table linen, all at bargain prices. Round off the day like everyone else - with a trip to Charlie's for some food in a rustic outdoor setting.

Arab Street, popular with Singaporeans of all races, is the heart of city’s Muslim community with the impressive Sultan Mosque. This street beginning just north of Beach Road is filled with many interesting shopping surprises. Wonderful merchandise such as handicrafts, clothes, basket ware, jewelry, etc has characteristic Islamic, Malay, Indonesian, Arabic influence. The most attractive goods are textiles, fabric in every color and pattern imaginable, handmade batiks, French chiffons and Chinese silks. Open Mon-Sat.

Chinatown was set-up by migrants from China in the late 19th century. Chinatown is full of unique shop houses mostly in cloth, medicine, gold and food imported from China. The stores here are populated with shops offering antique stuffs, Chinese fashions, accessories, crafts and foods in cheap price. If you’re hungry, authentic Chinese meal is everywhere, along with good Korean food and inexpensive food at the Smith Street Hawker Centre. Enjoy shopping and negotiating in a traditional Chinese atmosphere. Open Mon-Sat.

Holland Village is a unique area where you can find a lot of expatriates shop houses. It houses a lot of conserved and renovated antique stores which promote it to be the distinctive characteristic place. You can discover everything you want such as archaic curio shops peculiar art galleries, trendy music stores, nice coffee shops, a wet market and several fast food restaurants.
 
Little India - Spend your wonderful time on shopping at an exotic and exciting place. Touch Indian ambiance and stunning with lots of brightly-painted shop houses every street corner. This place sells a lot of gold, jewelry, clothing, textiles, spices and handicrafts. If you are hungry, you can have affordable and wonderfully satisfying food prepared by the kitchens of all the little family-run restaurants.

Mustafa Centre is a 24-hour emporium-cum-department-store-cum Aladdin's cave. Under its modest exterior, you’ll find every conceivable item here at some of the lowest fixed prices in city.
